Town of East Hampton Public Information Officer

The annual salary range is $80,000-$95,000, for a 40-hour work week commensurate with relevant experience. Government experience is preferred. This new leadership position is available beginning April 1, 2024, and will report to Supervisor Kathee Burke-Gonzalez and her team. As the Public Information Officer, you will play a vital role in communicating accurate and timely information to the public. We are looking for a professional, organized, and friendly team member with outstanding written, communication, and editing skills who is passionate about serving our community. You must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and have an ability to manage multiple tasks at once. And you must be able to exercise considerable independent judgment, discretion, and initiative in carrying out daily functions. Responsibilities include: responding to inquiries from the media and public; drafting press releases, presentations, speeches, and proclamations; managing the Town s social media platforms and developing graphics; overseeing the Town s website content and improvements; maintaining professional relationships with members of the media; managing internal and external messaging during an emergency; facilitating press conferences and special events; and working closely with Town Board members and Department Heads to ensure that messaging is consistent and tailored to individual audiences. Qualifications for this position include a Bachelor s Degree preferably in Journalism, Advertising, Communications, or Liberal Arts and six (6) years of experience in newspaper, news broadcasting, magazine, marketing, managerial sales or public relations work which regularly involved writing or editing responsibilities.
